I thought you may enjoy some details of my English Thanksgiving yesterday
After dropping the kids off at school,
I skipped into London with some girlfriends to St Paul's Cathedral
for an American church service
Although there were quite a few tents with protester signs,
most appeared to be 'unoccupied'
Due to photography prohibited during the service,
you'll just have to picture the choir singing beautiful hymns
US servicemen bringing the American flag forward
the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom giving a speech
followed by an American pastor delivering a sermon in a typical humorous, casual American way
As far as my eye could see, the cathedral was packed with Americans and other nationalities
We saw the secret service for the Ambassador
and maybe even some spies among us!
Being Thanksgiving, we had sushi for lunch of course :)

I'd seen, but never tried, these conveyor belt sushi restaurants
where you pick up what you want as it passes by
The color of the container indicates price
It was fun and yummy :)
We headed home to collect our kiddos from school,
followed by cuddles for our newest family member

This is one cool kitty purr machine
We figured there is never a good time to get a kitten, so why not now?
He has brought squeals and giggles to our family,
ten fold
This little 'moggy' (non-pedigree) cat has a 75% chance of being hard of hearing due to its white genetics
which can create a chill'n cat who won't startle easily
Anyway, we headed over to the pub for an American Thanksgiving Dinner,
which was loads of fun in a restaurant filled with our extended expat 'family'
I had to smile when the Yorkshire Pudding was passed around during our traditional meal
Maybe it's a little know fact the Pilgrims liked their Yorkshire Pudding?
I fell asleep on the couch, stuffed of course,
while my husband watched the Cowboy/Dolphin football game
into the wee hours due to the time difference
It was a wonderful day to count our blessings
and certainly a memorable Thanksgiving abroad

Sounds like a great new tradition (sushi for Thanksgiving!). The kitty is picture purrrfect.
Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving day. Such a cute kitten and an interesting fact about its chances of being hard of hearing. I have a family of hard of hearing individuals or are they just deliberately ignoring me!
Somtimes being away from home on a holiday like Thanksgiving makes you appreciate it all the more. Have fun with your new addition!
I know that sushi place, right across from St. Pauls! That is exactly what we did two years ago on Thanksgiving day...minus the tents outside of course. This year I cooked the thanksgiving turkey in Boston but will be returning to London after Saturday football. So glad you were able to enjoy a very American holiday plus the Y pudding!
Glad to hear you had a Happy Thanksgiving. I just read your post aloud to to the hubby, as we are planning to move back to the UK and one of his concerns is 'Thanksgiving'... He was very happy to hear that he'll still be able to watch the obligatory Cowboys Thanksgiving game. Lx

The kids at school knew the teams playing on Thursday, but not the pilgrims' names. Ha ha!

Bamboo is a sweet one. The children will be sure to enjoy him/her.
There's something about being far from home that makes the celebration of familiar holidays more acute, a little more special.
I enjoyed reading how you spent Thanksgiving, your new kitten is gorgeous and love his name.
I would have LOVED to have seen (and heard!) the service at St Paul's. Did you come out the side with the glass doors and there is perhaps a bible quotation etched into the glass? It seems I remember that, but my husband does not. Could you let me know? :-)

Welcome to Bamboo ! Soooooo cute .
Bamboo is so cute. We had a white, blue-eyed male short hair, and he was deaf. He would sit with his back to us, and you could do anything but he wouldn't turn around. Of course, that could just be cat. He was a great companion who lived for 17 years. Aristotle.
